Installing mods for Minecraft 1.4.4 using Minecraft Forge
November 17, 2012
An update to the install procedure for mods and their pre-reqs. I know 1.4.5 is out soon, but there probably won't be any major changes to this procedure, as it is just a small fix to the local hosting that Minecraft does now.
It is against the Minecraft terms of service for me to distribute the game files. Do not ask, as I will not upload or email my minecraft.jar file.
ALWAYS CHECK THAT:***
- You have backed up your minecraft files. All of them. Save, screenshots, configs, everything. Do not delete this backup until you are sure you don't need it, or ever.
- The mods and pre-reqs you are downloading are updated to the version of minecraft that you are using. There is no guarantee that mods marked 1.4.2 will work in 1.4.4, and same for 1.4.4 mods working in 1.4.5. Read the descriptions and instructions of all mods you want to use.
- You have deleted the META-INF directory from the minecraft.jar file. Do this AFTER copying the Forge files into the minecraft.jar.
- If you are having issues, make sure you start from a completely fresh install of Minecraft. Delete ALL files from the .minecraft folder, not just the bin folder. Old files may cause issues. Remember to backup before you start.
